Law enforcement authorities in Denton are in the process of investigating an auto accident that left one person dead and the driver responsible in critical condition. This crash occurred Friday, Oct. 22. The driver who caused the collision is facing criminal charges. Given the circumstances surrounding this incident, the victim’s loved ones may be entitled to file a wrongful death suit against this individual to seek compensation for their losses.
According to reports, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the driver of a pickup truck ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and hit a sedan. This accident occurred at the intersection of North Western Boulevard and Jim Christal Road. Sadly, the driver of the sedan — a 34-year-old male — died in the collision.
The identity of the driver responsible has not yet been reported. He was thrown from his vehicle and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He has since been charged for his role in the crash. Authorities say alcohol was a contributing factor.
In Texas, when the negligent actions of one person contribute to the death of another, the responsible party may be held liable for the losses suffered by surviving family members. These losses may be economic in nature, such as funeral expenses, and lost wages and benefits — among various others — or they may be noneconomic, such as emotional suffering and loss of consortium, to name just a couple. With the assistance of legal counsel, the victim’s loved ones may be able to negotiate fair settlement terms with the responsible party’s insurance provider, or they may take the matter to court. Either way, their attorney will do everything possible to help them achieve maximum relief.
